Xyron - modified Polyphenylene Ether
XyronTM (modified polyphenylene ether or mPPE) engineering resins are composed of mPPE together with polystyrene (PS), polyamide (PA), polypropylene (PP), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) or other polymeric materials.
Key Attributes:
- Outstanding range of heat resistance (80-220 degrees C)
- Low mold shrinkage, excellent dimensional stability
- Grades with excellent hydrolitic stability, low-water absorption, hot-water resistance
- Low specific gravity
- High resistance to acids and alkalis
- Excellent electrical properties
- Use of Halogen-free flame retardants (V-0 through HB)
- Superior processability Grades
- Reinforced grades for structural applications
Available Grades:
XyronTM mPPE+PS:
Amorphous in molecular structure, this grade is characterized by halogen-free ignition resistance, excellent electrical properties, hot-water resistance, ease of processing, high heat resistance, dimensional stability and excellent mechanical properties.
Typical applications include electrical outlets, electrical plugs/switches, fuse box components, control boxes, nozzles, battery cases, medical device housings, junction boxes and connectors for photovoltaic (PV) applications, etc.
XyronTM mPPE+PA:
This grade provides especially high resistance to oil and heat and is superior to polyamide resins in dimensional stability. In other important performance characteristics, it equals or exceeds the performance of polyamide resins. This material meets the requirements for a broad range of applications with an excellent balance of heat resistance, dimensional stability, creep resistance and processability in both reinforced and unreinforced varieties. Xyron mPPE+PA is also ideal for painted applications.
Typical applications include body panels, mirror shells, hinge covers, relay blocks, fuse carriers and covers, wheel covers, automotive and electrical parts used in areas that require chemical resistance.
XyronTM D-Series mPPE+PPS:
Combining the inherent advantages of the crystalline polymer PPS and amorphous polymer PPE, the XyronTM D-Series also reduces or eliminates the disadvantages of its two main components. This material is characterized by high heat and chemical resistance and is an alternative to PPA (polyphthalamide), PPS, LCP (liquid crystal polymer) and other engineered plastics.
D-Series Features:
- Carries many of the advantages of semi-crystalline and amorphous polymers
- Retains the hight heat resistance of super-engineered plastics
- Good balance between strength and stiffness, high resistance to abuse
- Stiffness retention at high temperatures
- V-0 flame classification without flame retardants
- Low warpage after molding, due to low anisotropy
- Excellent chemical and oil resistance
- Lower specific gravity than PPS resins
Typical applications include junction boxes, battery cases, tractor hoods, motorcycle fairings, relay blocks and much more.
